The Complete Guide to Land Rover Defender Hire

It doesn’t get more British than the Land Rover Defender. Standing for hard work and going the extra mile, it’s a champion of the great outdoors and also a bit of a fashion statement. This vehicle is used by farmers, the military and off-road enthusiasts – and it’s big with brands looking to make an impact. But how do you know if it’s right for you?

Read on for the benefits and considerations of Land Rover Defender hire, and to see how brands have used this vehicle to spread awareness.

Why should I hire a Land Rover Defender?

Here’s why you may want this all-terrain vehicle for your activation…

A name in trust and reliability

Land Rover Defender hire can help your brand look strong and trustworthy. As an off-roader, its reputation for high performance resonates with audiences from all walks of life – so it works beautifully for brands selling fitness, nutrition, or an outdoorsy lifestyle.

A workhorse with style

The Defender is built for rough terrain, but its compact size means it can be driven through city streets and narrow alleyways. It can also fit in many venues that can’t be accessed by larger vehicles. And unlike vintage vehicles, the Defender can also handle extended drives between venues.

A potentially green option

With a flat roof for solar panels and space for a lithium battery, a branded Land Rover Defender could support an eco-friendly promotion. People love companies that work sustainably, so this can do wonders for your reputation. See our guide on how to run a sustainable campaign to learn about the benefits and the options available.

Ideal for wild activations

Being mobile, practical, and spacious enough for a chiller fridge or two, the classic Land Rover Defender empowers you to run a wild or ‘guerrilla’ event with unplanned stops and loads of customer engagement. Simply drive to your preferred location, hand out freebies and capture the event before moving on – the Defender makes it easy!

What do I need to consider?

Want to get the most from Land Rover Defender hire? Follow the advice below…

Stocking samples and freebies

Great for handing out samples on the go, this vehicle lets you reach lots of people over a short period of time. However, the limited size means that you may need to think about storage (like dump bins), and in particular your sampling and fulfilment needs in.

At Promohire, we can store all of your stock at the right temperature, deliver it in batches for each event day, and send support vehicles to keep up with the demand. See our sampling & fulfilment guide for more info.

Engaging guests around your vehicle

Your Land Rover Defender can be fully customised, but it isn't big enough for an immersive experience. That's why you'll need to think about support materials.

We recommend making the space your own with branded deckchairs and banners, or using 3D props to entice people over. These touches will elevate your Defender into an outdoorsy backdrop, ripe for photos and reels! You can find and customise these extras online at the Raccoon branding store.

You also need the right staff, who can keep spirits high, forge connections, and ensure your Defender remains at the heart of the experience. Our guide to campaign staffing explains who you can hire, from brand ambassadors to security and event managers.

Choosing locations

As a modern vehicle, the Land Rover Defender can be taken to all kinds of locations – from bustling city centres to natural green spaces. Hit a shopping centre, then visit the park or drive to a famous landmark for an impromptu photoshoot. Land Rover Defender hire makes it all possible!

While we love the rebellious nature of a wild activation, we recommend having a set schedule and venues that fit both your brand and your target demographic.

Which types of Land Rover Defender can I hire?

We have two vehicles to choose from. Both are available for short-term hire, as well as long-term dry hire.

The classic Defender 110 van

At around 15 feet long and over 6 feet tall, the classic Land Rover Defender offers plenty of room for customisation. This model features two seats in the front, plus a deep interior for carrying stock, props and engagement pieces.

The four-wheel drive makes it practical for all kinds of terrain, and it's the perfect choice for music festivals and sporting events!

The pop-up Defender

We’ve taken the Defender van and transformed it into a unique, purpose-built sampling vehicle! With a roof that opens to reveal a branded interior, and a side hatch that doubles as a serving counter, it’s great for getting attention on the go! Simply close up when you’re done and you can quickly move on to the next location.

This Defender has been customised with sampling in mind, but it can also be used for product testing, demonstrations, and even as a DJ booth!

How Land Rover Defenders helped brands succeed

Discover the brands that picked the Defender for their mobile activations.

Barebells

Known for its high-protein snacks, Barebells wanted to hire a branded Land Rover for a 2-year period, and we were happy to oblige! We customised the vehicle with a liftable roof and serving hatch, and wrapped the whole thing in a vibrant blue. Due to the length of their campaign, Barebells preferred to drive away without logistical support (dry hire).

Diesel

This famous clothing brand wanted an eye-catching Defender so they could spread awareness and look good doing it! The external wrap made fantastic use of the white logo, while inside, a false wall created a special display area. Diesel’s campaign featured a host of branded extras, with the Defender serving as the key focal point.

Kraken

Wondering if two Land Rovers are better than one? Renowned for its spiced rums, this drinks company wanted to engage with the public while creating the perfect photo-op. Both Defenders were decorated with the classic sea creature and complemented with branded deck chairs, sampling stations and parasols.
